The role / TE MAHI
We are seeking a class teacher with full New Zealand teacher registration to be our next lead at our Ormiston Junior Provision.
The successful applicant will:
Be willing to start a journey to learn NZSL with our support or already have NZSL skills
Be a skilled teacher in using assessment tools to progress learning
Have the right attitude to work with a range of deaf and hard of hearing students across a range of communication modes and in varying learning contexts
Have strong knowledge of the NZ Curriculum means you will have the ability to adapt and differentiate the New Zealand curriculum
Have strong classroom management skills
Be able to plan for students' individual needs
Be able to build strong connections with families.
In this role you:
Experience a supportive and well planned induction to deaf education
Have class sizes that are small
Will work within a Deaf Provision Teaching Team, which includes teachers and teacher aides of the deaf, with access to other specialists as required including Speech Language Therapists
Have opportunities to team teach with other teachers of the deaf
Receive continued and generous PLD as you grow into the role
Be supported to complete the teacher of the deaf post graduate qualification with a Ministry of Education study award. When completed this qualification adds 1MU to this role.
