Principal Advisor Rangahau Maori (Engagement Lead)

This role is permanent, based in Wellington.
Your focus is to provide leadership and to provide support and guidance across the Education Evaluation Centre in relation to the impact of the education system on Maori learners in both English and Maori medium.
We see you bringing engagement expertise to build and maintain meaningful and effective working relationships at all levels; both inside and outside the organisation.
Ideally you will have some research experience in Maori organisations.
You should bring strong leadership to support the realisation of the organisation's vision and strategic direction.

Your knowledge and experience of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, te reo me nga tikanga Maori, and te ao Maori.Where you have managed complex stakeholder relationships and built enduring and credible relationships.Where you've demonstrated leadership to deliver e.g.
Led by example, demonstrated problem solving, used positive influence to deliver high quality and timely work.Where you have empowered and supported others to enhance the capabilities required in their current roles and to effectively deliver on their work priorities.Any relationships with Maori or examples of positive relationships working with Maori.The ability to communicate effectively in te reo is preferred, but not required.
The position is located in Te Ihuwaka – ERO's Education Evaluation Centre.
It has a mission to provide evaluation insights that are a catalyst for change so that every child achieves success as a lifelong learner.
It achieves this through:
being an authoritative voice on the performance and quality of education in New Zealand;developing the evidence base about what works to improve learning outcomes;supporting education system reform, evidence informed decision making and improvement.It has a wide and varied work programme including:
monitoring the overall performance of the education system;thematic reviews of aspects of the system (e.g.
teaching practice);deep dives into provision for key groups of learners (e.g.
vulnerable children);showcasing innovations and good practice.Across the whole of our work programme, we have a strong focus on the principles of Te Tiriti and the outcomes for Maori learners.
As a government agency we work very closely with Ministers.
Te Ihuwaka draws on the wider expertise across ERO, in particular in our expert evaluators and reviewers who work in schools/kura and early childhood education services every day.
We also work closely in partnership with other education agencies to achieve change.
