time left to apply End Date: January 29, 2025 (10 days left to apply)job requisition id JR-0000010133Job OverviewOpportunity to make an impact to NZTA's medium- and long-term investment planning and outcomesPlay a lead role in a new and innovative position to shape and influence transport investment over the next 30 years.Play a key role in ensuring tangible investments contribute to long-term performance of the land transport systemThe System Investment Planning team helps shape the future of the land transport system through leading direction about the best way to optimise long-term investment in New Zealand's land transport system, and provide next steps and pathways for implementation.This role helps shape long-term investment direction and informs decision makers on how to achieve best medium- and long-term returns for New Zealand's investment in the land transport system, whilst ensuring long-term performance of the transport system.The Principal Advisor will translate Government direction, NZTA | Waka Kotahi strategy and land transport strategic plans into potential future transport investments; develop and apply frameworks and tools to assess strategic investments and provide specialist insights and advice.We are looking for an experienced advisor who will provide leadership in an uncertain but innovative environment to build our long-term investment capability.

You will have excellent communication skills that enable you to work across NZTA and with external stakeholders to influence investment outcomes.Key ResponsibilitiesTo be successful in this role, you will bring:Demonstrated expertise with government decision and policy making processesA significant level of understanding of New Zealand's planning and funding frameworks within local and central government and related investment decision making processesAn understanding of the New Zealand land transport system and its policy, investment, planning, and regulatory frameworksSignificant experience in leading, advising, and providing analysis on investment planning, frameworks, and collateral to support medium to long-term investment planning decision makingStrong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility to help support the delivery of NZTA's investment planning function and influence investment outcomesGood analytical, critical, and conceptual thinking using numerical and financial data in a complex environmentExcellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to simplify complex concepts to senior staff and governors.
Ideally you will have experience in drafting papers and advice to governors such as boards and ministers.The ability to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and resilienceQualificationsA tertiary qualification preferable at the post graduate level in a related discipline or equivalent experienceYou will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori.
