As Principal Advisor, you will offer expert strategic advice and support to the Director Governance and Government Services on a variety of Ministerial and Parliamentary matters, ranging from simple queries to more complex system-related issues. You will collaborate with Managers and Directors across the organisation, gaining valuable insight into the diverse range of work programmes at DOC.
In this role, you will lead the development of systems that promote public service values and principles, enhancing the Department's engagement and performance in this crucial area. Additionally, you will need to work in an agile and responsive manner, as the nature of Government Services' work is often fast-paced and dynamic.
You will be an experienced thought leader with sound judgement and provide insightful advice and feedback on a range of matters.
We are seeking someone with: A background in governance or government services, with extensive experience in the workings of government.Political awareness and a deep understanding of the interface between Ministers' offices and agencies.A strong understanding of the principles and processes that underpin the machinery of government and public administration.A strategic and analytical mindset with significant experience in risk assessment.Highly developed written communication skills.Effective relationship skills building the trust and confidence of senior leaders and colleagues.Excellent oral communication skills, both one-on-one and presenting to groups.Experience in coaching, peer review and giving clear quality assurance assessments.Integrity and commitment to public service values.A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. humanities, public policy, legal) desirable.Mo te tima | About the team The Governance and Government Services Directorate designs, implements and upholds standards and processes that support the Minister of Conservation, and the Minister for Hunting and Fishing. The Directorate is responsible for the functions of Crown Monitor on behalf of the Minister and Director General of Conservation. Government Services provides the key link between DOC and the Minister's office for the flow of information and advice.
