It aims to improve our ability to foresee and manage risks while also learning from past mistakes. Rather than just adding more rules, the focus is on reducing clutter and providing clear guidance that supports meaningful work and prioritises safety.
The Principal Advisor Health and Safety Systems will play a key role in the Department's strategic approach to improving health and safety. Collaborating closely with the O,R&S leadership team, this role will develop strong health and safety policies and processes that shape work practices across the organisation.
As a subject matter expert, this role will provide strategic thought-leadership to identify and analyse policy issues. This is a relationship-driven role that inputs into interagency strategies, feeds into reports for ELT and the board, and collaborates with other government departments on policy development initiatives.
This is a National Office role, preferably based in Wellington. We are open to applicants based around the country, but there will be a need to travel to National Office regularly.

Experience in the design and development of health and safety management systemsProven effective project and people management skills and experience at Principal levelDemonstrated, successful experience in policy, with an ability to define problems and apply creativity, logic and frameworksDemonstrated ability to develop strategic goals and overarching prioritiesA relevant tertiary qualification in policy or health and safety, or evidence of continued professional developmentUtu a-tau Salary: The mid-point of the salary range is $137,525 and the full range (85%-120%) is $116,897 - $165,030. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
