To support a growing pipeline of work, XFrame is seeking to employ a Pre-Construction Design Manager. The new role will be responsible for managing the team dedicated to creating manufacturing assets and drawing packages that support the delivery of XFrame projects and products.
Once a project is awarded, XFrame's pre-construction team takes preliminary project design documentation and progresses to a complete manufacturing and shop drawings package ready for manufacturing and installation.
The role is a combination of hands-on design work predominantly using Rhino 3D and leveraging XFrame's patented automation processes to optimise project efficiencies. The output is a complete documentation package that is issued to our manufacturing partners worldwide for the project delivery team to then see through to completion.
The successful candidate's contributions will be crucial in ensuring the timely production, adherence to technical standards, quality control, and effective project delivery of a range of projects globally.
Key Responsibilities Closely collaborate with XFrame's design team during the tender phase and project delivery team to ensure designs are practical for manufacturing.
Liaising with the Client where required to confirm design requirements and finalise shop drawings for their approval.
Creating accurate 3D and 2D models used in the production of XFrame products/systems/projects and reviewing those produced by direct reports.
Modify existing 3D models, use XFrame automation tools, create both new standard and custom components, and ensure all outputs align with XFrame's manufacturing and installation processes.
Oversee the pre-construction team's production of a series of 'sets' that are integral to the delivery process of XFrame projects, including:
Shop drawings to assist installers with the installation/deployment of XFrame spaces/products/systems.
Factory drawings to assist factory staff with the manufacture and assembly of XFrame spaces/products/systems.
Engineering drawings to allow engineers to review and specify compliance for XFrame spaces/products/systems.
Manufacturing packages including cut files (nested 2D parts on sheet materials) with supporting documentation to allow XFrame manufacturing partners to create XFrame products.
Bill of materials and supplier assets for handover to the project delivery team where procurement of materials is required.
Oversee the quality control of cut files and drawings created by themselves and the pre-construction team.
Expanding and improving XFrame's standard details and drawing sets.
Creation and maintenance of detailed 3D models to assist in the coordination and delivery of XFrame spaces/products/systems.
Review existing and implement new quality control processes as required to ensure continual improvement of the pre-construction phase of project delivery.
Manage staff job allocations and grow the team in conjunction with XFrame's senior management.
XFrame's model creation and maintenance is based in Rhinoceros 3D (Rhino 3D), as such a strong familiarity with the Rhinoceros modelling toolset is essential.
A technical understanding of CNC Milling and manufacturing files is useful but not essential. Understanding of C# is also advantageous but not essential.
About the Candidate Our ideal candidate is someone with a passion for design that can coordinate a team of people to deliver cutting-edge circular projects. This role is just as much design work as it is producing manufacturing assets for project delivery whilst overseeing the pre-construction team's output.
Key Attributes Required Effectively manage a growing team of people.
Be highly skilled in Rhinoceros 3D modelling software.
Be familiar with manufacturing within the construction/architecture/joinery and/or building industry.
Have an eye for detail and be rigorous (ordered and considered) when using 3D modelling tools.
Work well in a rapidly growing and dynamic business environment.
Be willing to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
This position is based in our Wellington office and flexible work arrangements will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Application Requirements Please provide a current copy of your resume together with a 1-page cover letter that specifically addresses your suitability for the role. Applicants who do not provide this information may not be considered further for the position.
