Pou Whakahaere | General Manager, Data and Insights Products | FlexibleFocused on making data and insights more accessibleWellington-based preferred, but not essentialWe are looking for a talented and experienced people leader to lead the Data and Insights Products Unit.This role reports to the Deputy Secretary, Strategy, Stewardship and Performance and works as part of a collaborative senior leadership team.The Strategy, Stewardship & Performance Group generates and uses data and evidence to advise ministers and executive leaders, inform the Ministry's strategy to deliver on core priorities, support our policy programme, contribute to reporting to meet national and international statutory obligations, and evaluate performance for continuous improvement.The Data and Insights Products Unit generates, collates, and manages data.
It is also responsible for the analysis and modelling to generate insights and forecasts to inform and improve strategic decision-making, policy development and statutory reporting.A critical function of the Unit is to develop products that make data easier to understand and use, for a broad range of stakeholders and decision-makers.The General Manager will focus on:Ensuring good practice around data management, modelling and reporting programmes.Supporting the Ministry's strategic direction through insights derived from reporting and data analysis.Working across the GM and Chief Advisor cohort to integrate and improve connections, with a particular focus on how we embed evidence-led decision making.Driving efficiency improvements, in particular in our reporting programme(s).Ensuring key work programmes are on track and integrated across the Ministry (e.g.
evidence base for Adaptation Framework, Climate Data Initiative, Environmental Reporting Act Amendments, Climate and Environmental reporting).This role is responsible for re-establishing the Unit following a reorganisation, maintaining credibility for its functions within the organisation, and embedding the ways of working that will support the Ministry's new operating model.Critical to your success will be the ability to set the strategic vision for your management team and build a highly engaged, cohesive and inclusive culture through your expert leadership skills.Our ideal candidate will bring:significant experience leading people managers, with the ability to develop and foster talentexperience leading and managing data, science or technical teamsexperience providing fit-for-purpose data to support a range of decision-makers to make informed and robust decisionsconfidence engaging with Maori research contributions and issues in science and data, including mataurangademonstrated background working at a Ministerial level and understanding of the machinery of government and Crown relationships with iwi / Maorian understanding of te ao Maori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an appetite to champion this in the team and with our relationships with Te Tiriti partners and stakeholders.demonstrated experience leading the strategic direction of a complex business unit, ideally across governmentsound strategic thinkinga collaborative approach and the ability to establish credibility and trust at all levels.Salary range for this role is $221,713to $268,895pa.
Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
