Base Salary starting from $109,301 to $116,679 + 17% superannuation
About the Opportunity
The University of Sydney, Faculty of Medicine and Health has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (or Level A, Associate Lecturer) position to join the NHMRC Marurra-U Partnership Project aiming to improve Indigenous children's health in the remote Kimberley, WA. The project is part of a partnership between the University of Sydney, Marninwarntikura, and Royal Far West and also includes investigators from the George Institute for Global Health and Curtin University. This is a mixed methods study, with the idea coming from the Indigenous community and with strong Indigenous leadership.
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will contribute to the full spectrum of academic research underway in this NHMRC Partnership project - The Marurra-U Partnership Study and will be based in either Sydney, NSW or Fitzroy Crossing, WA; or both with the initial months based in Sydney, NSW; with the potential for travel between the two locations, funded by the project.
The project is evaluating a model of wrap-around care developed in the Fitzroy Valley that incorporates trauma-informed, culturally appropriate care (with a focus on allied health) delivered in-person in Fitzroy Valley communities and schools as well as using telehealth. This model of care is built upon a strong global evidence-base about wrap-around service models for children with complex mental, behavioural and social-emotional needs as well as our team's strong evidence and experience built over the past decade together with our Fitzroy Valley colleagues.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Be To:
Join the ongoing project, being involved in data collection, analysis and publication with the investigator team
Manage the project, together with the lead investigator
Update and/or report upon ethics board submissions, together with the investigator team
Present project updates, overviews, and formal presentations of research activity to the full partnership team, together with the investigator team
Contribute to, and/or lead the preparation of peer-review papers, as a lead or co-author
Provide appropriate mentoring to relevant staff and students on the project
There will be opportunity to live and/or travel to the Fitzroy Valley as part of the project, meet with local organisations, families, and children to assist with quantitative and qualitative data collection, review the literature, analyse and write-up findings, as well as contribute to funding applications, policy briefs, advocacy documents and continual community consultation and listening
Undertake other research duties as required.
About You
A completed Doctor of Philosophy in a relevant field of research (e.g., public health, epidemiology, medicine, nursing, allied health, qualitative, anthropology, psychology/mental health)
Experience in research in areas consistent with the project objectives, having authored at least several peer-reviewed publications
Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
Demonstrated experience in executing high quality research projects within a team
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Experience with research ethics proposals, project management, data collection, rural or remote settings, Indigenous health, child health (advantageous)
Knowledge of literature reviews, referencing software, project management tools, data collection tools (e.g., Redcap, SurveyMonkey), interviewing, data analysis of quantitative (e.g., R, STATA, SAS, SPSS) and/or qualitative data (e.g., yarning, realist, other qual), implementation, evaluation (advantageous)
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain inclusive, respectful and productive working relationships with colleagues, partners and members of the community. Ability to work with minimal supervision
Ideally you will be looking to launch your own research career, keen to join our team for years vs months, with a keen interest in child health, and/or health systems and services research, Indigenous health.
Flexibility to work online from home, from the university and/or from the Fitzroy Valley
Ideally you will be interested in either living in or traveling to the remote Fitzroy Valley.
