Positions Available For 2025 Training Year - Paediatric Registrars

Details of the offer

Work in Auckland in 2025 and see why it is loved by so many:

Consistently ranks as one of the most liveable cities in the world. Highly diverse and multicultural Auckland (Tamaki Makaurau) is home to more than 200 ethnic communities, including particularly large and vibrant Maori and Pacific island communities. Energetic nightlife, world-class restaurants, and an abundance of cultural and leisure activities. Experience the East and West Coasts of New Zealand (Aotearoa) within a short drive; hike in the Hunua or Waitakere Ranges; enjoy the varied leisure pursuits afforded by the Hauraki gulf and its many islands. You will have the opportunity to work alongside our passionate and knowledgeable senior Clinicians.

Each of the hospitals provides a supportive environment with regards to teaching and education, including journal clubs, tutorials, case-based teaching, X-Ray conferences, grand rounds, and community teaching. Our rosters provide structured days off for improved work-life balance and the ability to spend time with friends, family, and enjoy all that New Zealand has to offer. With a population of over 1.3 million, Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand, comprising the largest centre for Paediatrics, providing care to children from throughout New Zealand and also a small number of children from the neighbouring Pacific Islands. Auckland has a broad-ranging socioeconomic landscape, and trainees are exposed to a wide variety of disease presentations and diverse cultures and ethnicities.

Specifically, we have available for the 2025 training year a Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Registrar position based at Starship Hospital.

The Green Lane Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Service (PCCS) is a national service based at Starship Children's Hospital, Auckland. It is the sole provider of cardiology and cardiac surgical services for infants, children, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease for New Zealand and a number of Pacific Island nations.

Basic and Advanced Training Opportunities Available: During your first 2-3 years as a basic trainee working in the Auckland Region, you will develop your skills while allocated to general paediatrics, paediatric emergency, and NICU rotations, as well as some sub-specialty exposure (haematology/oncology, immunology/infectious diseases, cardiology, respiratory, neurology, renal, gastroenterology, endocrinology).

Advanced trainees working in the Auckland region are provided with the opportunity to work in Level 3 NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit), Te Puaruruhau (Child Protection / Abuse), Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Child Emergency Department, Consult Liaison, and various medical subspecialties.

All of the jobs offered in our training hospitals can be accredited towards your basic and advanced training in Paediatrics with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).

Our training programme also provides trainees with the potential opportunity to work in Whangarei and/or Tauranga. These runs are ideal for completing rural training requirements in Advanced Training in General Paediatrics.

Enquiries about the Whangarei rotation can be directed to the RMO unit at the Northland District. Email: ******, though applications for the training scheme will still need to be submitted via the Auckland Paediatric training scheme in the first instance.

Eligibility and how to apply: Preferred experience: 9-12 months in Paediatrics. Enrolment with the college FRACP programme (or equivalent). Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (for local trainees this means you must have completed two full post-graduate years). Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora is committed to seeing Aucklanders from every community and background share in a healthier future. To help us achieve this, we need a talented diverse workforce that reflects the population we serve. We strongly encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds who share our values and would greatly value seeing applicants from our Maori and Pacific communities. Come to Auckland where we are training world-class doctors.
