The Regulatory Systems Policy directorate leads the development of high-level strategies for the animal welfare and biosecurity systems, and the policy and regulatory frameworks that MPI operates within.If harmful pests and diseases get into New Zealand, they can cause damage. Biosecurity focuses on stopping them before or at the border, or getting rid of the ones already here. Biosecurity policy involves using analysis and strategic thinking to shape what we need to do to help protect New Zealand's environment, economy, and way of life.You will focus on primary and secondary legislation, but will need to be flexible and able to pivot to other high-priority work and projects as required.ResponsibilitiesProposed changes to the Biosecurity Act;Regulations to support the Biosecurity Act;Border policy.Mou - About YouThe successful candidate will be able to commence their new role from November or December 2024, to support policy analysis work on the current public consultation process for proposed changes to the Biosecurity Act. You will ideally be currently working as a Policy Analyst or be a postgraduate in a similar role, with an interest in broadening your experience and knowledge of the primary sector.The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, a solution-focused approach, and a proven ability to forge effective partnerships.
