People and Culture Lead at Climate Change Commission, WellingtonHe Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission is an independent agency dedicated to driving climate action in Aotearoa New Zealand, with a strong statutory mandate. We provide impartial, evidence-based advice to the Government on mitigating and adapting to climate change. We also monitor progress towards emissions reduction and adaptation goals and report on this publicly.
Join the Commission as we expand our efforts from primarily mitigation to a comprehensive approach that includes adaptation, the national climate risk assessment, and monitoring the country's progress on climate action. Be part of this exciting transition as we take on our expanded work program as set out in the Climate Change Response Act (CCRA).

The People and Culture Lead is a trusted advisor who provides specialist advice on a range of complex people issues and organisational development initiatives, aligned to business priorities. This role leads the provision of People and Culture services for the Commission, working closely with the Executive and Senior leadership teams to enhance capability and people outcomes.
This role works closely with people leaders at the Commission to design and implement people and organisational development strategies in line with the Commission's goals. The role focuses on long-term strategic development, working with the organisation to understand its needs, and manages the operational delivery of the full suite of people-focused solutions.
This position is fixed term for 12 months to cover parental leave, from late February 2025 to March 2026. This role is currently part-time (0.8 FTE), but we are open to considering it as a full-time position. Please indicate your preference for either part-time or full-time hours in your application.
This role requires a highly effective and experienced human resources professional who is able to lead the people and culture services to provide targeted and timely support and advice to Commission leaders and staff on all operational people and culture matters and cyclical activities.
This role is the sole internal People and Culture resource, so it requires someone who is hands-on and willing to get involved in everything, from HR coordination to leading strategic people and culture initiatives.
In addition you will have:
Experience working at a Senior Advisor/Business Partner levelDemonstrated expert knowledge of People and Culture best practice with the ability to provide advice in areas such as employment relations, performance management, remuneration, change management, workforce planning, staff engagement, etc.Ability to coach, and mentor people leaders and other team members to enhance overall capability in HR practiceExperience of management issues (people, resources, systems and processes).Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with managers and staffAn understanding of te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi, Treaty principles, te ao Maori (including tikanga and kawa).Demonstrated high levels of integrityA relevant tertiary qualificationThe likely appointment range for this role is between $123,614 to $154,518 per annum pro-rata.
