Hospitals are here to help people, but it takes a great team beyond the Doctors and Nurses to keep things running smoothly and ensure everyone is well looked after.
Here at Nelson Hospital, an important part of making this happen relies on having an awesome Patient Support & Security team on site at all times.
We are looking for people who can assist our teams to ensure that we continue to provide a welcoming and safe environment for the Emergency Department, Inpatient Mental Health Unit, and our Older Persons' Mental Health Unit at Alexandra Hospital in Richmond.
As a Patient Support and Security Worker, you will focus on working with staff to best meet the needs of patients and their whanau accessing our services.
As this is a casual position, there are no fixed/guaranteed hours of work. However, the more available you are, the more shifts you'll be offered.
The hourly rate ranges from $23.50 to $28.18 dependent upon relevant NZQA qualifications and experience. Penal rates apply to nights (25%) between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM, weekends (50%) from midnight Friday/Saturday until midnight Sunday/Monday, and public holidays (100%).

You will be the type of person who works in a rational and calm manner and who has the skills and experience to effectively de-escalate difficult situations and promote a safe and therapeutic environment.
You will be able to relate well to patients and their visitors. You will be able to work with the clinical team and follow directions.
Previous experience in security, or a related industry is preferred. However, this is not essential as training will be provided.
Additionally, you will have:
Empathy and a non-judgmental attitude towards patients and members of the public
The ability to relate with ease to people from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds
The ability to recognise and pass on issues that may affect patient welfare
A good level of physical fitness and mobility.
