Part Time Custodian

The Kootenay Co-op is looking for a part time Custodian. This position will be 20-24 hours per week. Evening and weekend availability required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Cleaning and maintenance of the retail sales floor: Floor, walls, glass, doors, etc.

• Transfer of garbage and recyclables from departments to receiving bay.

Cleaning and basic maintenance of:

• the customer and staff washrooms

• the staff room and teaching kitchen

• hallways, office, parking lot, parkade, stairwells and elevators

• the forecourt and sidewalk (litter, some snow removal)

• the janitors' room

• Other cleaning and maintenance as required by the Department Managers

• Other duties as required.

SKILLS

The Maintenance Custodian must have and continue to develop skills in the following areas:

• Professional janitorial and maintenance skills an asset but not necessary

• Ability to safely operate power floor scrubber

• Impeccable attendance & punctuality; ability to clock-in/out accurately

• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to develop and maintain favorable relations with customers, staff, and vendors

• Cooperative, respectful communication skills

• Ability to approach problems with a positive attitude and have creative, constructive solutions on hand

• Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm manner

• Basic understanding of the cooperative movement and what makes us different

• General product knowledge, such as location of items or categories within the store
