Reporting directly to the Asset Group Manager, and managing the activity and the team responsible for delivering services, recreation spaces and well-maintained streetscapes and facilities in our district, let's look at some of the things you could be doing:
Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Parks and Reserves Activity including management of the team.Preparing the annual budgets and operating within the approved budget, and financial authority as per the Delegations Policy.Project managing both capital and project works, including contract management of major projects from inception, through procurement and to successful completion, ensuring budgets are administered, monitored, and not exceeded without approval.Maintaining an overview of leases and lease negotiations/re-negotiations associated with the Parks and Reserves activity.Monitoring, reviewing, and updating all Parks and Reserves asset information in Council's Asset Management System, Asset Management Plan, and Reserve Management Plans.Being up to date and ensuring adherence to relevant legislation, standards, regulations, and best practice, providing advice to council staff and councillors when required.Managing the maintenance of the activity's facilities, plant, and equipment, and ensuring that Pool Safe accreditation is maintained for the Norman Kirk Memorial Pool.Working with the Executive Support Manager in publicly communicating the team's activities while ensuring that contact with community groups is maintained and fostered.Preparing reports for Council and associated Committees, and at times, external reports.Providing accurate and timely information for the Annual Report, Annual Plan and Long Term Plan (LTP) and contributing to the planning process to deliver on Community Outcomes.You're equally comfortable outside with your sleeves rolled up as you are in the office working on reports, contracts, budgets, projects, and plans.
In addition to a relevant qualification in horticulture or related field (and/or equivalent body of knowledge), you have relevant experience to this type of position, working at a strategic and operational level, leading staff, and project, contract, and asset management experience.
You're well versed in HSWA and take pride in knowing that the plant and equipment your team use is safe and fit for purpose. If you have previous local government experience and practical knowledge of the legislation that applies to this type of Council activity, all the better!
