Classification and Salary:
Maintenance Service Worker 1 (MSW1) – Park Maintenance Worker 1:
$20.14 - $24.22 per hour
Maintenance Service Worker 2 (MSW2) – Park Maintenance Worker 2:
$23.38 - $28.34 per hour
In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.2% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:
• 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
• 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:
• $3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
• $2.75 per hour for evenings

If you enjoy working outside and are committed to caring for Alberta Park's facilities and campgrounds, come join our Maintenance Team in the Lakeland District. We are looking for highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Maintenance Service Workers, and Supervisors for the 2025 summer operating season.
Individuals will be part of a team accountable for providing regular maintenance and operational duties that support the day-to-day operation of Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park, Beaver Lake Provincial Recreation Area, Pinehurst Lake Campground and surrounding campgrounds, day use areas, facilities and trail systems.
We are currently looking to hire:
• 2 Park Maintenance Worker 2 (MSW2)
• 1 Equipment Operator (MSW2)
• 11 Park Maintenance Workers (MSW1)
As a Park Maintenance Worker 1 (MSW1), duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Lawn maintenance and minor repairs of facilities
• Performing routine custodial and cleaning duties of park facilities
• Operating mowers, weed wackers, and small hand tools
• Responding to in-person requests for information on area amenities and park conditions, as needed
• Performing routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment
• Completing trail and signage projects
• Reporting all maintenance concerns accordingly
• Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent occupational health & safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols; and with the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols
• Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses
As the Park Maintenance Worker 2 (MSW2), primary duties include assisting with and performing MSW1 duties in addition to some front-line administrative and supervisory tasks such as:
• Conducting trail maintenance projects
• Maintaining roads and parking lot areas
• Assisting with playground routine inspections and maintenance
• Installing and removing docks, maintaining beaches
• Operating heavy equipment such as loaders, graders, garbage trucks, etc.
• Operating chainsaws, brushsaws and other higher risk equipment
• Assisting with water and wastewater system start-up/shut down and operating
All positions will require you to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. You have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week and will be paid for the number of hours worked. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any time of weather conditions, rain or shine.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
Park Maintenance Worker 1 – (Maintenance Service Worker 1)
• Some high school education or directly related experience based on one year of experience for one year of education
Park Maintenance Worker 2– (Maintenance Service Worker 2)
• Some high school education and one year of related experience or directly related experience based on one year of experience for one year of education
Additional requirements:
• Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent and Driver's Abstract
• Final Candidates may be required to provide an acceptable 5 years commercial Driver's Abstract
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate
Additional Assets to be successful in any of the roles:
• Experience with hand and power tools; good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and safety of small equipment
• Experience working in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions
• Chainsaw certification
• Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints
Terms of Employment:
For the Park Maintenance Worker 1 (MSW1) role: (up to 13 positions)
• Position start/end dates vary (start - early May, early June, mid-June; end dates – early September, end September, mid October)
For the Park Maintenance Worker 2 (MSW2) role: (2 positions)
• Position start dates vary (Late April – end of September)
For the Equipment Operator (MSW2) role: (1 position)
• Position start dates Early May – end of September
For all positions:
• Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work
• Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent will be required.
• Final Candidates may be required to provide an acceptable 5yr Driver's Abstract. (Will be reimbursed)
• Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided
• These positions will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions
• Training sessions at the beginning of employment are mandatory (late April/early May)
• Staff housing may be available
