Job Description Pae TukutukuMaori Land Court | Rotorua Te ahuatunga a Te Kooti Whenua Maori/About the Maori Land CourtWe are a court of record.
Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993 (our Act) recognises the significance of Maori land as a taonga tuku iho of special significance to the Maori people and the Court is the guardian of the whakapapa of the land, for the people.Our role is to provide a court service to support landowners through their whenua journey.
As a team member, you will promote the retention of Maori land with its correct ownership and assist with the effective use, management and development of that land.
Te Haeata/The OpportunityWe currently have a permanent, full-time position available at the Maori Land Court, based in Rotorua.Pae Tukutuku are responsible for processing Maori Land Court applications from end to end (from giving pre-application advice through to completion).
A key function of the role is to consult and liaise with parties / counsel / judiciary to determine case characteristics and develop proposals to progress cases.
You will complete research and analyse evidence in respect to applications, and prepare draft submissions and reports to assist in the efficient progression of the application.
You will ensure effective service delivery through ongoing monitoring of applications (including technical accuracy and timeliness) and take remedial action as appropriate and support the Judiciary through the provision of up-to-date information on the status of cases.
You will seek directions of the Court to determine and develop recommendations to progress the case and prior to hearings you will ensure that case / applications files are in order and meet national standards and format.The work is challenging and varied, and the environment is interesting and supportive.

If your experience looks a little different from what we have outlined and believe you can bring value to the role, we'd love to hear from you!To be successful in the role you will have:A genuine interest in people and experience in providing great customer service.Great organisation skills and a high level of integrity and confidentiality.Strong demonstrable research skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills.Operational experience in a medium or large organisation with experience in using a digital workflow system to process work.Experience working in a high-paced environment where you are required to respond to changing needs and priorities to manage large workloads.Excellent administrative skills with good attention to detail to produce quality work.Experience in working with other agencies, service providers and key stakeholders.A good general knowledge of, and respect for, tikanga Maori and a commitment to further develop your knowledge of Te Reo Maori.You will work within a well-established and vibrant team alongside technical experts and you'll have attributes of being flexible, calm and resilient.

Utu a-tau/SalaryThe remuneration band for this role is $58,729 to $80,794 – while the appointing salary will be based on skills and experience, we are willing to pay higher in the band to attract strong candidates into this role.
