Our focus is on the long-term horizon, investing in private equity, real assets and listed equities.Our General Counsel plays a critical role in supporting the next phase of our strategic growth, advising the executive team and Board, overseeing all legal and regulatory aspects of our operations, including compliance with NZX obligations. You will be responsible for providing expert legal advice across a broad spectrum, including investment management, contracts, corporate governance and compliance. Your role is critical to ensure Quayside's legal strategy aligns with our investment objectives and mandate.This is a permanent role, 4 to 5 days per week depending upon the candidate.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the Quayside legal strategy in the business, aligning to our vision and purpose.Provide legal advice to the Group, striking the right balance between managing legal risk and commercial outcomes. Direct interface with Audit and Risk Committee.Manage external legal advisors, ensuring provision of appropriate legal expertise and value.Ensure compliance with New Zealand's regulatory landscape (including NZX and the Local Government Act).Develop and actively monitor the Group's compliance with the Statement of Investment Performance and Objectives as well as Quayside's Statement of Intent.Act as Company Secretary, providing advice to the Board of Directors.Remain informed with relevant legal and regulatory changes affecting the investment and local government landscapes, providing proactive guidance to the business including researching and drafting opinions on relevant legislation.Proactive leadership of the legal team.Actively and consistently demonstrate enterprise leadership across the wider business in pursuit of our high-performance organisational goals.Qualifications and ExperienceA qualified lawyer, with current practising certificate, with 6+ years of post-qualification experience, ideally within corporate or commercial law.Excellent communication skills, sound EQ and a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams is critical.Values-alignment with our vision and purpose.In-depth knowledge of New Zealand corporate, commercial and contract law.Proven expertise in handling legal matters related to investment (managed and direct) into various asset classes including but not limited to listed equities, private equity, real estate and other alternatives asset classes.Strong understanding of investment and portfolio management with the ability to provide strategic, commercially driven legal advice to senior stakeholders.Knowledge of local government.Demonstrated experience managing larger-scale transactions, including M&A and joint ventures is desirable.What we offer:The ability to work on significant strategic workstreams that will shape Quayside's future, contributing to the sustainable growth of the Bay of Plenty region.Collaborative environment with a fantastic culture and true work-life balance.An attractive range of benefits, including additional leave days based on service.For more information, including a Position Description, please contact Mel Manley, General Manager – Operations on ****** using the 'Apply Now' button below, providing a cover letter and resume.For more info about Quayside's mahi, visit www.quaysideholdings.co.nz.
