Job Title: BPU Manufacturing Technician
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Position Location: Penrose
Position Summary: In this role, you will be mainly involved in the production of raw serums and other cell culture media supplements sold under our market-leading Gibco brand. These products serve a variety of customers and are used in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and in the biotech industry. You need to be active and on your feet; although some of our processes can be repetitive in nature, your days will be varied with the wide range of different tasks and activities you will perform. Adherence to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), safe work practices, and a strong understanding of cGMP/ISO principles (current Good Manufacturing Practices) will be key strengths that you can rely on to be successful in this role. Be a key member of our BPU (Bio Processing Unit) manufacturing team and feel comfortable both working together with your colleagues or completing tasks on your own with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities: To be trained in several serum processes, taking full responsibility of the task when confident, working alone or with the team to ensure all manufacturing tasks are completed.Record manufacturing processes accurately and in real time in batch manufacturing records and following SOP standards.Ensure production plant hygiene and housekeeping is always maintained.Take full responsibility for the manufacture of products as delegated by the Production Team Leaders and Supervisor(s).Actively participate in the implementation and compliance of Standard Operating Procedures.Carry out duties as requested and required in the manufacture of any Company product.The Manufacturing Technician is responsible for the activities associated with the cell culture product manufacturing process.Update SOPs, batch sheets, and Hazard IDs as required.Abide by EHS policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy workplace environment for all.Communicate production issues to Production Supervisor and/or Team Leader as they arise.Working Conditions: Works in a processing lab and in a controlled clean environment.Working in wet conditions.Working with a laminar flow cabinet.Working in a storeroom or refrigerated environment (up to -20°C).Following appropriate gowning and safety procedures.Working with animal blood and blood-derived products.Physical fitness is required, including the ability to lift weights up to 15kg on a routine basis and having no allergic reaction to alcohol or chlorine-based sanitizers. Able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials and be flexible around hours of work.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: Qualifications & Experience Academic qualifications – Minimum NCEA Level Two, or Sixth Form Certificate; Tertiary qualification, preferably in science is a bonus (not critical as training will be provided).Experience working in a production manufacturing environment or laboratory environment would be an advantage but is not essential as we will train and provide the opportunity to gain the required skills.
