Keteriki Ltd is seeking a passionate and experienced Operations Supervisor to lead our innovative heritage Steam Bay of Islands product.
The role involves overseeing key aspects of our tourism business, including day-to-day operations, seasonal experience development, and team management.

They have a lead-from-the-front attitude, work mahi tahi with unity and inclusiveness, and value manakitanga, outstanding hospitality.The Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of Keteriki tourism activities, including our flagship Bay of Islands Vintage Railway, our Railway Station Café, Paihia Ticketing Office, Cruise, Coach, and Cycle products, and coming online in 2025, the Minerva steamship experience.
This position requires a dynamic individual with exceptional leadership skills and a deep understanding of operational processes.
Leaning into outstanding visitor experiences and an integrated product offering, we are seeking a team player who is experienced and understands the building blocks of a successful tourism business that values its people, place, and purpose.You will be ready for your next career step up in an innovative, new business model and lead our tourism ops team, including guards, drivers, skippers, deckhands, tourism booking office staff, retail and hospitality staff, and our exceptional service volunteers.Key responsibilities and main tasks include:Managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of Keteriki Tourism and Hospitality, including scheduling, staff management, resource allocation, product planning, and visitor experiences.Developing and implementing operational policies and procedures to optimise efficiency and productivity within the business.Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and health & safety requirements.Leading initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction, quality control, and experience from ticket sales to overall service delivery.Collaborating with different departments to streamline processes, improve communication, and drive cross-functional teamwork.Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational performance and identify areas for improvement.Identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency gains while maintaining high standards of service delivery.A key part of the senior management team, you report to the General Manager on operational performance, challenges, and opportunities for growth.The ideal candidate for this role is a proactive leader with strong problem-solving abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, and a proven track record in effectively managing complex operations.
Keteriki Ltd operates in a high-risk rail and maritime environment; you will have the support of an excellent safety, engineering, and administration team, but passenger and staff safety is imperative, and there are complex operating regulations and procedures to be mastered by the right candidate.Required skills:Strong leadership, management, and service abilities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Knowledge of te reo and tikanga would be an advantage.Proven experience in operational planning and execution.Ability to analyse data and make strategic decisions.Proficiency in financial management and budgeting.Knowledge of project management principles.Problem-solving and decision-making skills.Understanding of health and safety regulations.Proficient in using relevant software applications for operations management.Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.Required experiences:Minimum of 2 years of experience in a managerial role, preferably in Operations, Tourism, or Hospitality.Demonstrated success in leading teams and driving operational efficiency.Experience in implementing process improvements and streamlining operations.Experience and knowledge of web-enabled comms, roster, and booking tools would be an advantage.About Keteriki Ltd:Keteriki Limited is a registered charity and joint venture partnership between the Bay of Islands Vintage Railway Trust and Nga Tangariki o Ngati Hine Trust.
The primary function is for the operation of a tourism experience that encompasses both rail and steamboat journeys in the Bay of Islands.
The business also has extensive training and employment responsibilities and currently employs over 30 staff in tourism, civil, and environmental maintenance opportunities.
