ID Forensic Services are seeking a dynamic and diverse Occupational Therapist Support Worker to join our team. We are looking for someone that comes with a variety of practical and life skills and experience. The person we are looking for is a self-starter, willing to share experience and skills with our clients, and can arrange projects, activities, and run groups where necessary.
Mo to matou ropu - About our team
The Intellectual Disability Secure Service provides secure (inpatient) care and rehabilitation services for adults and adolescents with a diagnosed intellectual disability who have committed serious offences. Our clients are usually Care Recipients or Special Care Recipients under the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act, 2003. The service has developed a Model of Care that incorporates various approaches to ensure the best possible care and rehabilitation.
Mou - About you
Your skills and experience will ideally include:
Experience/knowledge with practical skills used while working alongside clients individually or in groups.
At least level 4 NZQA National Certificate in Community Health Support Services (or equivalent qualification).
Good written and oral English skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Flexibility, adaptability, and excellent time management skills.
Ability to work under direction and proactively carry out tasks independently.
Ability to work in stressful and changing situations.
Basic group facilitation and problem-solving skills.
Some caregiving background would be an advantage.
Mental health and intellectual disability experience.
Able to set own values aside.
Skills to undertake craft, gardening, carpentry/mechanical projects with clients.
Ability to run activity-based groups and work one-on-one as required.
Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi.
A full NZ Drivers Licence.
Ability to pass a Police check and have no criminal convictions.
