Nurse Consultant, Quality & Patient Safety Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral (MidCentral) is part of Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand and provides healthcare services to over 180,000 people across the Manawatu, Horowhenua and Tararua regions.
With a large hospital campus in Palmerston North, it also provides key health care and support services to neighbouring communities.
The Opportunity We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic senior nurse.
The Nurse Consultant provides professional leadership and expert clinical advice to support quality and patient safety oversight and governance, including restraint minimisation and safe practice.
This is inclusive of systems, processes, and education programmes across Te Whatu Ora MidCentral in partnership with the Associate Director of Nursing Mental Health and Associate Director of Nursing Addictions.
Role Purpose Be accountable for providing compassionate and collaborative senior leadership, visibility and expert advice for patient safety and incident response within the organisation.
Advise and support the Senior Leadership Team to understand and explore the most effective approaches to improving patient safety and ensure that any patient safety-related responsibilities are effectively aligned.
Be responsible for and directly lead patient safety understanding, involvement and improvement activity and ensure that systems thinking, human factors understanding and just culture principles are embedded in all patient safety processes.
This includes ensuring that the organisation has effective processes in place that cross directorate and divisional structures and that this links effectively to national safety systems.
Support the directorate to ensure that the patient is at the centre of all patient safety activities.
The successful candidate will: Be an experienced, dynamic and talented addictions leader with a well-developed ability to think critically and reflect using a "whole of systems" approach.
Be excited by change and passionate about improving services.
Have proven leadership track record in mental health nursing.
Have demonstrable experience in leading large, complex change.
Have excellent communication skills, including the ability to develop relationships rapidly with stakeholders.
