We will not accept applications that do not meet this criteria. Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral are looking for two (2) Neurologists to join our team of experienced health professionals with a focus on the delivery of high quality specialist care to the growing population across the MidCentral Region.
We want to grow the neurology service to help develop responsive ways of meeting the needs of our growing population while enriching models of care across the region.
You will join three other Neurologists in our Palmerston North service. If you are someone who is enthusiastic around service improvement and working in new ways as part of a multidisciplinary team, we want to talk to you! The job is ideal for a general neurologist who is comfortable in the management of acute stroke and TIA.
All neurologists will be expected to see patients in general neurology clinics, but there will be opportunity to develop subspecialty clinics and such interests are encouraged.
Currently, the service provides an inpatient consult service, but with successful recruitment, the plan will be to develop a fully staffed inpatient neurology and stroke team.
All standard neurology services are available including stroke thrombolysis, an active botulinum toxin clinic, a clinical neurophysiology unit providing EEG and EMG services, access to an infusion unit for disease modifying MS therapies along with a dedicated headache clinic.
There is scope to expand on these depending on the successful applicant's areas of expertise.
We work closely with neuroradiology and neurosurgery in Wellington, along with the Neurology service in Wellington as our tertiary referral centre for additional care such as stroke clot retrieval.
If you are interested in a role that provides the opportunity to maintain and build on your skills, this will be a good opportunity to take your career to the next stage!
Previous additional training in stroke care or a special interest in stroke would be advantageous but not a requirement.
The service looks to create a team of physicians with complementing skills. Our team actively encourages work-life balance, and the MidCentral Region is ideally situated for those who like to work, rest, and play with beautiful beaches close by, ski fields just up the road, stunning scenery, and excellent schools and universities.
Applicants must be eligible for vocational registration in Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand with specialist training/qualification in Neurology and have demonstrated clinical, management, and teaching skills.
