Salary band - $132,397 to $142,182 p.a. pro-rata and KiwiSaver

Mo te turanga - About the role
Join our maternity team at Health New Zealand I Te Whatu Ora, Southern at a key time of change where you will meaningfully contribute to our kaupapa of providing a safe and positive childbearing experience to all expectant pregnant people in our region.
As the Midwife Manager, you will lead and support the Wanaka Unit and Lakes Maternity Unit in Queenstown providing clinical and operational leadership to ensure the service is responsive to the changing needs of our community and health system.
Some key deliverables include but are not limited to the following:

Provide professional and clinical leadership for the Wanaka Birthing Unit and Lakes Maternity Unit to ensure safe and effective delivery of maternity care, identification and mitigation of clinical risk, and continuous quality improvement
Provide operational leadership to ensure the midwifery unit operates effectively, safely and sustainably on a day to day basis
Ensure the service is appropriately staffed, best practice human resource standards are met, and staff are supported and managed to maintain a cohesive and productive team
Ensure Maternity Unit operates within budgets for the financial year, and work in collaboration with Director of Midwifery to develop risk mitigation strategies for unexpected expenditures; participate in developing and managing annual and three-year capital expenditure plans
Management unit quality and risk programmes; lead and manage certification and accreditation within Maternity Unit

Alongside your strong leadership skills, our ideal candidate will also bring extensive midwifery experience and be an excellent communicator.
Some of the skills we are looking for are as follows:

It is essential that you are a NZ Registered Midwife and hold a current annual practicing certificate
Possess the ability to think outside the square, communicate effectively and promote best practice and standards of midwifery care
Demonstrate sound professional judgement
Have relevant knowledge of patient safety and resource management, including budgeting, equipment and staff management
Demonstrate clinical quality, safety and best practice.
Confidence to build successful working relationships with those around you, the ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary team environment
Confidence with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
Hold a relevant post-graduate qualification

Utu whanui - Salary range
This role falls under the terms and conditions of the MERAS Midwives Collective Agreement (1 February 2024 - 30 April 2025), and falls between Step 1 ($132,397 p.a pro-rata) and Step 3 ($142,182 p.a pro-rata) of the Designated Senior Midwife Salary Scale - Grade 7.
