Mental Health Cultural Peer Support Worker (Ara Kaitiaki), Taupo An exciting opportunity has become available to work as a Cultural Peer Support Worker (Ara Kaitiaki), as part of our new Taupo based Closer to Home service, Te Toki Haumanu.
The roles present a real opportunity to make a positive difference for whānau and tangata whaiora in the Perinatal Mental Health Service.
We are looking for everyday people with a genuine desire to make a difference.
If that's you, come join us in empowering tangata whai ora (clients) towards recovery & wellbeing goals through community mobile care & support services.
The role is based in Taupō with a specific focus on the Southern Lakes area to enable better access for Whānau (hapū mama and mama with young pēpi) who live rural or remote.
You will work alongside perinatal clinicians (nurse, social worker, psychiatrist and others) and the role is aimed at providing direct health care and support, in conjunction with other providers, to meet the needs of hapū Mama (pregnant mothers), Mama and Pēpi (mother and her infant), with their family and whānau and or other natural supports.
Services include support during pregnancy.
The peer/support worker role will have clinical oversight, supervision and support.

Te Toki Haumanu Closer to Home services will provide care and support for people to support them to achieve their recovery and wellbeing goals with a key goal of avoiding admission to the Whare Whakaue ward or specialist services.
* Part time (up to 32 hours per week) * Working business hours, Monday – Friday from 8am to 4:30pm * On-call roster after hours and weekends As Pou Toko Ora (Cultural Peer Support Worker) you may be: * Supporting People with their recovery in their own home * Connecting or reconnecting them with their whānau and natural supports.
* Accompanying people through their whakapapa journey * Independent cultural opinion for people who may receive compulsory assessment or treatment * Inspiring hope and recovery * Empowering people to do the things they love, as independently as possible * Support people with budgeting or other skills to help manage the cost of living crisis * Attending appointments and advocating for people You | Mōu We want to see the real you in your application and welcome this in any creative form.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have the following: Able to build professional relationships with a wide range of people Have knowledge of Maori tikanga and kawa or willing to learn Applicants must be willing to obtain (if not already completed) an accredited New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Be culturally respectful and non-judgmental.
Have good professional boundaries.
You must hold a current full driver's licence.
