About the roleThe Mau Tutei (Behaviour Support and Access Management Officer) plays a vital role in supporting behaviour management and access control for apartment tenants and their visitors at all Auckland City Mission Housing sites.
This position is responsible for implementing and upholding the trauma-informed security model while being immersed in Te Ao Maori worldview, and ensuring a safe and culturally sensitive environment for all individuals within the mission housing community.
Supervise challenging behaviours within the housing community using trauma-informed approaches and de-escalations techniques Support access control measures aligned with the trauma-informed security model to ensure the security and integrity of the housing sites Develop and maintain strong partnerships with Maori communities, leaders, and stakeholders, ensuring their voices are heard and incorporated into security practices Foster cultural safety and create an inclusive environment that respects and celebrates Maori culture Collaborate with the wider Mau Tutei team to promote a supportive and culturally sensitive security culture.
Skills & Experience A deep understanding and respect for Maori culture, principles, and values Prior experience in security, housing support, or a related field is desirable Experience working within a trauma-informed framework and applying de-escalation techniques.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, capable of engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution.
