Job Specification: Manufacturing Engineer - Automation
Location: Hastings
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer specializing in Automation to join our team. The ideal candidate will lead automation projects to enhance productivity and drive growth, predominantly focusing on the assembly area but also supporting projects in the Machine Shop, Plating, and Mould Shop. This role demands a proactive individual with a strong background in automation technologies and manufacturing engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
Automation Projects:
Implement automation and semi-automation projects to boost productivity and support site growth. Provide expertise in automation technologies and develop compelling business case justifications for investments.
Equipment Integration:
Oversee the smooth integration of new equipment into production, from concept and RFQ to implementation and acceptance testing.
Support & Problem Solving:
Upgrade and resolve issues with existing automated equipment. Collaborate with other departments on automation projects and provide technical support.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay informed about technical developments and review manufacturing methods. Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as Material Replenishment and Flow, Cell Design, Quick Change Over (SMED), 5S+1, Mistake Proofing, and Standards of Work.
Health & Safety:
Comply with Health and Safety regulations as outlined in company procedures and Government legislation.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other Manufacturing Engineers, Design Engineers, Department Supervisors and Managers, TEOA, COE, and other relevant personnel.
Requirements:
Education:
HNC or Degree in Mechanical or Production Engineering, or equivalent experience (5+ years).
Experience:
Practical knowledge of assembly techniques and a background in manufacturing engineering. Proven experience with automation.
Essential Skills:
Proficient with Microsoft software. Experience using SAP. Ability to identify and recommend new or improved manufacturing processes and technical developments. Strong problem-solving skills using industry tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and 8D Reports. Experience in continuous improvement methodologies. Creative and able to work independently. Strong project management skills. Financial acumen and experience in building CAPEX project justifications. Experience in creating RFQs and working with suppliers for key investment projects.
Desirable Skills:
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification, or equivalent such as Red X. Experience with digital machine connectivity. Knowledge of Heijunka Boards and Cycle Wheels.
