Safety is a top priority for Waka Kotahi and Te Ropu Waeture - the Regulatory Services group's aim is to improve safety and reduce the risk of harm by being a firm and fair real-world regulator. The Manager, Safety Camera System Interventions role is part of the Safety Camera System, which is responsible for operating a network of safety cameras that encourages road users to abide by road rules (such as speed limits) and contribute towards a reduction in deaths and serious injuries on New Zealand roads. The delivery of the end-to-end Safety Camera System is spread across multiple leaders and business groups in NZTA, and effective oversight is required to ensure the staff and leaders working on Safety Camera System activities work effectively together to deliver the system's strategic objectives. The role is critical to ensuring NZTA's response to non-compliance detected by safety cameras addresses harm and improves road user compliance. You will leverage your regulatory leadership experience to oversee enforcement decision-making across business groups, ensuring the enforcement response is aligned with Tu ake tu maia, NZTA's regulatory strategy. In addition, you will lead a team of regulatory experts that will respond to escalated non-compliance, ensuring that the team's application of subject-matter expertise and real-world regulatory thinking is applied effectively to the risk and complexity associated with individual non-compliances. Ko koe'tenei | About you To be successful in this role, you will bring: Proven experience in a leadership role within a regulatory environment Experience applying legislation, strategy, and policy in a regulatory environment Experience using data and insights to lead and improve decision-making, processes, and delivery outcomes, preferably in a regulatory environment Analytical, critical, and strategic thinking in a complex environment Strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills with proven ability to influence and build credibility with people at all levels Knowledge of the transport sector, road safety, safety cameras, and automated compliance and enforcement would be desirable Previous experience in local and/or central government is preferred Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification, equivalent experience, and/or professional certification/accreditation. You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
