About the Team The Policy business group is a professional advisory team that works closely with the government. It oversees and manages the regulatory system, offering key advice on improving laws and regulations.
About the Role Our three Managers, Policy play a critical role in supporting the Deputy Chief Executive, Policy while leading a team of advisors to support government agencies in fulfilling their regulatory stewardship obligations.
This vacancy is to lead the Regulatory Policy Design team. Drawing on your leadership experience, you will lead the team in delivering sound strategic advice on the Regulatory Management System and identifying opportunities for improvements.
You will oversee the regulatory impact analysis system and the Ministry's role in providing early engagement and second-opinion advice on significant regulatory proposals across government. You will be responsible for leading advice to Ministers on regulatory policy protocols that could significantly impact New Zealand's economy.
About you We are looking for someone with extensive experience in public policy, including regulatory policy. You will have excellent critical thinking, communication and relationship-building skills, along with a proven ability to lead a team of policy advisors in a flexible and collaborative manner to deliver complex and impactful policy advice.

Demonstrated experience as a people leader committed to building meaningful team relationships while leading teams through complex policy and regulatory challenges Sound judgement and political nous Proven experience collaborating with executive stakeholders to maintain trusted relationships A passion for driving professional development of team members Experience in building strong cross-agency and system connections that achieve enhanced outcomes. Salary range: $169,590 - $224,313 dependent on skills and experience.
