Role Overview: Reporting to the Head of Finance Business Partnering, you will lead a team of finance managers, business accountants, and assistant business accountants responsible for providing all management accounting functions and delivering reporting, analysis, and internal budget processes at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).
This team is part of the Finance and Procurement Directorate.
You will lead the development of a high-performing team focused on planning and ensure the delivery of best practices for internal financial reporting of a large public sector organisation.
Key Responsibilities: Providing regular reporting, forecasting, analysis, and internal budget processes.
Providing proactive business and financial advice to senior leadership enabling them to make informed decisions.
Leading the improvement of internal financial reporting including reducing month-end cycle.
Providing leadership and coaching for your team and embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
Support and have accountability for team engagement, including building engagement activities into team processes.
Qualifications and Experience: We're looking for a proven people leader with experience in financial management processes.
You will have strong experience in a large and complex private organisation and/or public sector, and the ability to plan efficiently and motivate your team to deliver effective, quality processes and guidance across the organisation.
Essential Key Skills and Experience: Experience: Managing relationships and consultation with an assortment of internal and external stakeholders, including difficult customers.
Embedding continuous improvement.
Analysing technical issues and making business decisions with financial impact.
Key Skills: Chartered Accountant (NZICA or equivalent) with 5 years post-qualification experience.
Competence in interpreting and applying NZ GAAP.
Strong project management and planning skills.
Excellent influencing and communication skills.
Competence in supporting the training and development of cost centre and project managers, including the delivery of training.
The Management Accounting team is responsible for business planning, budgeting, and forecasting functions of MPI.
We support and provide quality advice to Deputy-Director Generals and cost centre managers across all of MPI.
