OSPRI is accepting expressions of interest for Manager, Field Services (South Island). This is an 11-month, fixed-term, full-time role based in the South Island. We are open to applications from our Dunedin or Christchurch offices.

OSPRI is an integrated national disease management agency and a proud part of New Zealand's agricultural sector. We play an important part in protecting New Zealand's biosecurity system. OSPRI currently manages three major national programmes: TBfree (directed at the eradication of bovine tuberculosis), M.bovis (OSPRI manages the Mycoplasma bovis programme under a government industry agreement) and NAIT (National Animal Identification and Tracing System). The Manager, Field Services is a highly valued senior position at OSPRI, leading the regional operations and stakeholder plans in the South Island. We are looking for a strong people leader with experience in Agricultural extension.
This role leads a team of ten, comprising of Field Supervisors, Regional Partners, and Case Managers. Under your leadership, you will guide the team in delivering and implementing regional operations, overseeing the delivery of extension services and providing operational support to farmers. You will be responsible for translating the national plan into actionable strategies tailored to meet the region's specific needs.
As the successful candidate, you will build strong relationships with local iwi, land occupiers, industry groups, and other key stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the operational plan. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to drive impactful work at the heart of New Zealand's disease management and biosecurity efforts.
We are looking for an experienced leader with strong operational and stakeholder management skills—someone who is solution-minded and will drive and execute our work programmes.
Your collaborative working style will guide you to be self-led, organised, and capable of planning and delivering work effectively. Your integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail will enable you to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
You will have the ability to work collaboratively and as part of a wider team to ensure the successful delivery of our core programmes of work.
In addition, the ideal candidate will have:
Proven leadership experience, preferably in agricultural or biosecurity operations.
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, with the ability to foster trust and collaboration.
A solid understanding of farming practices and New Zealand's biosecurity framework.
Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.
A track record of delivering operational plans and achieving measurable outcomes.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
A commitment to health and safety and the well-being of colleagues and stakeholders.

The midpoint for this role is $136,301. We may offer a salary above or below this amount based on the candidate's experience.
