The work of the Science Group at EnvironmentCanterbury consists of providing environmental monitoring, data, research andadvice to internal and external customers.
Te Science Group plays a key role ininforming decision making across most of the organisation including informingorganisational strategic intent, processing of consents, our approach tocompliance, responding to incidents, the development of plans, and measuringour progress towards regional and national environmental targets.
Reporting to theGeneral Manager – Environmental Monitoring and Data, this newly created rolewill plan, design, and lead the delivery of environmental monitoring thatenables the organisation to deliver to its core services.
You'll monitorprogrammes aligned with each other to provide an integrated view of theenvironment, and ensure programmes are efficiently run and cost effective.
As a Senior Leaderyou'll contribute strong technical leadership capability, strategic thinking,coupled with a governance mindset.
Equally key is the ability to build trustedand enduring partnerships and lead and develop your team, balancing the fiscal responsibilityand providing advice to council and Executive Leadership Team.
You'll develop a teamculture and contribute to the ongoing development of your people | kaimahi,whilst creating a clear vision, inspiring innovation and new ways of workingincluding connecting with our Treaty partner, Ngai Tahu, to ensureunderstanding of Ngai Tahu aspirations and priorities to inform work programmedevelopment and prioritisation.
Based inChristchurch, the indicative annual salary range is $144,000-$167,000 for a 40-hourweek, Monday to Friday inclusive.
You'll bring skillsand capability in the following: Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in adiscipline that includes a strong component of environmental monitoring Not less thanten years practical experience including management of environmental monitoringteams/projects Excellent knowledge of the workinvolved in environmental monitoring used in resource management Experience leading teams and projects involvingenvironmental monitoring Excellent communication skills (written andoral) Proven ability to establish stakeholder relationships andinfluence leaders at a senior level across local government, industry,consultants, and communities Financial management expertise, including risk management,budgets, fiscal plans and forecasting skills Proven ability to develop and nurture strong relationshipswith staff/ kaimahi, stakeholders and tangata whenua, and influence seniorleaders across the organisation Understandthe health and safety and risk obligations that rest with this position andhave experience in maintaining a safety focused culture where health, safetyand wellbeing are at the heart of decision making Experience leading, coaching,mentoring, and developing people leaders, supporting them to create a highperforming and engaged workforce Experience in leading changing, inspiringinnovative thinking, influencing behaviour change, and adoption of new ways ofworking Our values underpin everything we do.
