Our Finnegan site in Balclutha is Silver Fern Farms' largest processing facility in the country, employing over 1000 people at the peak of the season.
We are looking for a motivated and skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our team and take on responsibility for the hands-on day to day maintenance of the plant within strong mechanical engineering team.
Our Maintenance Engineers have the opportunity to be involved in projects and installation of new site equipment as well as a wide range of mechanical engineering applications across the site. If you are interested in using your mechanical skills on a large industrial food processing site, and like the idea of working for one of New Zealand's largest food exporters, we look forward to hearing from you. Our site operates both day and evening shifts. Our team of Maintenance employees work to a "4×4" roster which sees them work four 12-hour shifts, then have 4 days off. These 12-hour shifts alternate between day-shifts and night shifts.

Key Responsibilities:Undertake mechanical repairs and maintenance to plant equipment to minimize equipment failure.Ensure any breakdowns in equipment or process is back to full production capacity within the shortest time, whilst always ensuring yours and others health and safety.Encourage a health and safety focused culture through personal participation in H&S initiatives.Food hygiene regulations are complied with when working in areas controlled by MPI regulations.About You:Previous experience in FMCG or transferrable production engineering environments would be an advantage, but the key is the ability to work as part of a team, to identify faults and use analytical and problem-solving skills to provide top level service to the processing plant.
The successful applicant will possess the following skills and attributes:Relevant Trades Qualification (Level 4 Mechanical Diagnostics | Fitter/Turner | Fitter/Welder OR L4 Automotive Engineer | Time spent LV/ HD Mechanic)Good knowledge of sound engineering principals and repairs and maintenance procedures on a large industrial processing site – or a passion to learn in this environment.Ability to analyze problems and implement effective solutions in a timely manner and communicate this with those around you.Be self-motivated and capable of working both independently and within a tight knit team of engineering supportOrganized, with the ability to plan and priorities workload in a challenging engineering environment and lead by example from the front.Desire to keep learning and upskill – be this in a leadership scope or dual trading in to electrical – refrigeration or even project design.
