Maintenance Engineer
Based in Kawerau, Metal Solutions BOP Ltd (MSL) is a privately owned, family-run scrap metal recycler with the motto "SCRAP MADE EASY". MSL has the capability to handle all types of metal, specializing in dismantling, processing, and sorting into export standard. MSL is a member of the Metal Recycling Association of NZ, working towards making a positive impact on our environment by recovering metals for recycling and diverting them from going to landfills.
We're looking for a skilled Maintenance Engineer with a mechanical or engineering background - not necessarily qualified – who can demonstrate strong people management skills. This dynamic role offers a great variety - from engineering tasks to maintenance and repair work, fabrication to serving customers for retail sales, as well as taking the lead in our hydraulics division. Being flexible and open to change is crucial in this multi-faceted role as there is never a dull moment, so a positive attitude is also key for us.
Daily activities include (but are not limited to):
Manage Vehicle and Machinery Maintenance checks:
Cleaning of Radiators / Filters
Greasing
Oil changes
Check over wear and tear
Wheel rotations and fit replacement tyres. Torque to spec.
Liaise and manage with the office to organise ordering and checking of filters
Plan, Manage and Co-ordinate external service providers
Organise and manage the Tyre Bay
Steel and pipe sales:
Serve customers, carry out orders and record orders with the office
Cut and join steel culvert pipes – adding lifting eyes, wingwalls or sockets to order
Fabricate and weld new steel bins and repair as required:
Spray paint new bins
Take the lead with the Hydraulics division:
Learn threads, make hoses, manage stock levels and assist with getting orders completed and out to customers on time

Ideally candidates will have:
An engineering/welding and/or a mechanical background
Experience with repairs, maintenance of machinery
The ability to work independently and self-manage workloads
Good numeracy, verbal and written skills in English
A sense of humour and be a great team player
Confidence & the ability to problem solve and prioritize to meet deadlines
Experience with Hydraulic Rams or Hoses (an advantage but not essential)
Valid OSH Forklift licence, with F endorsement as an advantage
Reliable transport to and from work
Full car license
Ability to do physical labour and other strenuous physical tasks
A clean criminal history is essential
