Our Local Communications team works with elected members, staff and other key stakeholders to make Auckland Council's stories matter to people where they live, work and play. We currently have an Auckland south-based opportunity for a confident, tenacious and enthusiastic communication professional to join our team on an 11-month fixed term contract.
Day to day you can expect to:
Implement local communication strategies and plans for a nominated Local Boards and ward councillorsProvide high-quality communications advice and delivery to local board chair, board members and ward councillorIdeally, you will have a background in media, communications or PR.
Experience is important, but we are equally interested in your style, your vision and ability to tell a story in a way that helps grow trust and confidence in Council's plans, projects and initiatives and meet the key goals of our communications strategy:
Helping Aucklanders understand that Auckland Council has a clear vision and strategy for the futureGrowing pride in Auckland, connected to the things we do.You will know how to create great visual and written content for social media, our own online and print news channels as well as being able to measure success to drive improvements in future. It goes without saying that you are a great team player with proven initiative, drive, resilience and the ability to work to tight deadlines while deftly balancing competing priorities.
Finally, you will work toward becoming a trusted communications advisor to elected members and business partners, so political acumen and sound judgement are vital.
This is a fast-paced and exciting role. Deadlines, pressure and competing priorities all come with the job. Experience working in a large and diverse team is highly desirable.
We operate a hybrid working model, but the role will require the successful applicant to spend some time at our council offices in Auckland South and a degree of flexibility is required around meetings or events.
