Lifeguard | West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre (Henderson) Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities.
Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.
As a lifeguard, you are responsible for: Provide a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customersEducate and enforce pool rulesRespond to any First Aid emergenciesEnsure pool and surrounds are clean at all timesWe are currently looking for 3 permanent lifeguards: 16 hoursFriday 5:15 am - 1:45 pm and Saturday 5:30 am - 2:00 pm16 hoursSaturday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday and Thursday 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm32 hoursSunday 11:00 am - 7:30 pm, Thursday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm and Monday and Friday 1:30 pm - 10:00 pmOur centre opens from 6:30 am - 6:15 pm at weekends and 5:00 am - 9:15 pm on weekdays; the ability to work early night, late night, and weekends is crucial.
We are looking for strong swimmers, dedicated to helping others and can commit to full-time work.
To become a lifeguard with Auckland Council, you will need to pass the following tests (please only apply for this position if you feel you can do this or could do this with training):
Swim 200m in less than 6 minutes (Any stroke, or a mixture of strokes, can be used)Swim 50m breaststrokeRetrieve objects from the deepest part of the pool (depth varies across centres)Tread water for 5 minutesDo not worry if you do not have a PLPC certification; we will provide ALL training for you free of charge and pay you to attend the training.
However, you must be available for the LG training from 2 Dec - 13 Dec 2024 (Weekdays 8:30 am - 4:00 pm) at West Wave. You will be joining a team who are outgoing and customer-focused. We aim to upskill and progress your career, so you can train and take on other functions within our centres, such as Recreation Assistant, Fitness Instructor, and more.
By the same token, if we occasionally need some help in other areas such as at our front desk and general customer service duties, as a team member, you may be called on to cover these areas if short-staffed or at peak periods.
Pay Rate: 27.80/h+ *Please note the official job title is Team Member. Auckland Council is committed to the protection and wellbeing of children.
