About Ryman Healthcare At Ryman, we believe the measure of a full life is one that gets richer with age. Ryman Healthcare is a leader in retirement living and aged care. Our driving purpose is to enhance freedom, connection and well-being for people as we grow older. We own and operate 48 villages in New Zealand and Australia and we employ approximately 7,700 team members across a range of different sectors. Additionally, we are proud to be the first healthcare company to receive the Wellbeing Tick. Care is at the heart of everything we do, and we've created this role to approach the environment with the same level of care that we have for our residents. Environmental sustainability is important to us as it supports our goal of providing exceptional retirement living communities in NZ and Victoria, Australia. At the heart of our business, everything we do must be 'Good enough for mum and dad.'
What will you do? We are seeking a motivated Legal Counsel to join our in-house Legal Team and to lead the Unit Contracts division of the team. This role reports directly to the General Counsel and involves leading and mentoring the Unit Contracts team, as well as providing legal advice to Ryman on a range of matters including property, commercial, and retirement village issues. Other key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Overseeing all matters relating to the conveyancing of Ryman occupation rights for units in its villages.
Preparing and maintaining template documentation relating to Ryman's occupation agreements, as well as implementing changes to improve efficiencies.
Supporting other divisions of the business and preparing and reviewing legal documents as required.
Responding to and resolving ad hoc legal queries.
Leadership of Ryman's Unit Contracts Team.
What's in it for you? If you are the sort of person who loves working with a team of people who work to a clear purpose, you'll love this role! In addition, a career at Ryman offers:
Ongoing support for professional development and career opportunities.
Additional wellbeing leave and flexible working arrangements.
Access to over 60 discounts with well-known brands across a variety of sectors including health and wellbeing, banking, insurance, and retail.
Social club events, furry Fridays (bring your dog to work), free yoga classes.
Free gym membership for onsite gym.
Convenient Ryman owned onsite café (Pioneers Café) with affordable pricing.
Who are you? You have a Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) and a NZ Practicing Certificate.
You have 4-8 years PQE with relevant experience gained in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal role.
You value people and kindness and are passionate about delivering results.
You strive for excellence and look for ways to exceed expectations. You can deliver with confidence in a fast-paced environment.
You believe in the value of strong, positive, trusting teams who work together as one.
You are resilient and can demonstrate composure under pressure.
You value communication that is clear, effective, and lacks ambiguity.
If you are interested in joining an organisation with a clear purpose and a commitment to innovation, kindness and excellence, we would love to hear from you!
At Ryman, we support an environment where everyone feels welcome to be themselves. We embrace diversity and celebrate individual uniqueness, encouraging anyone wanting to work for Ryman to apply for our vacant positions.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received and interviews may take place prior to the close date. This means a job ad may close before the advertised close date.
At Ryman, our pioneering spirit is a part of everything we do — it's why we only want the best people — people who share our pioneering attitude towards life and retirement living — and to do so we need to offer them what all the best people want... The opportunity to push your career to new heights.
All of our people, in every area — from construction to villages, sales to technology — have the same goal: to provide the very best experience for our residents – it's got to be good enough for Mum, or Dad. To achieve this, we all pull together. All the time. It's the secret of our success and why we are one of New Zealand and Victoria's fastest growing, most innovative companies. A career at Ryman really has no limits — if you're pioneering enough.
