The Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu nomination and appointment process is being undertaken to appoint a new Ngai Tahu representative to the Molesworth Steering Committee.
Functions of the Molesworth Steering Committee
Appointed under section 9 of the Reserves Act 1977 to:
Advise the Minister of Conservation on the biodiversity, recreation and pastoral farming management of Molesworth.
Assist in the preparation of a draft Conservation Management Plan for consideration and approval under s40B of the Reserves Act 1977.
Advise the Minister of Conservation and Landcorp Farming Ltd on any issues arising from the implementation of the terms of the Land Act 1948 lease and the management plan.
Purpose of the role
The purpose of this role is to represent the Ngai Tahu perspective to the Molesworth Steering Committee ensuring that any issues of tribal significance are reported to Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu while also ensuring that tribal matters of significance are represented to the Committee.
Required skills, experience and qualifications
An active interest in conservation.
An understanding of Ngäi Tahu values in relation to conservation and an ability to promote and articulate these values.
The time and energy for board and committee meetings, field trips (normally during the working week), reading and consultation. The ability to listen, analyse issues, participate in discussion and reach consensus decisions.
An understanding of the Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu Settlement Act.
An understanding of S4 of the Conservation Act.
An understanding of the Conservation Act.
Meeting details
Average meetings - Usually 2 - 3 meetings per year. $500 per day for meetings. $250 of this is met by DOC and $250 by Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu. Reasonable expenses for travel, accommodation and meals approved in advance by the Committee will be reimbursed by the Department of Conservation.
