Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Built Environment Position Purpose: To enhance the learning and qualification outcomes of Massey's students and the scholarly outputs of the University by undertaking an effective programme of teaching; undertaking research including research supervision of students; engaging in the pursuit of external funding; providing administrative and professional service to the University and broader academic or professional communities, developing a programme of co-curricular activities to enhance experiential learning.

About this area: The School of Built Environment (SBE) at Massey University is one of the schools in the College of Sciences and is fully based in Albany, Auckland campus.
The School offers programmes in Facilities Management, Lighting, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Construction Project Management, Construction Law, Sustainable Built Environment and Digital Built Environment at different levels from Diploma, Graduate Diploma, Bachelor, PG Certificate, PG Diploma, Master and PhD.
The school is continuously experiencing exciting and rapid growth and as a consequence is looking to recruit a new Senior Lecturer in or Associate Professor of Built Environment to develop and teach relevant subjects in our programmes and to reinforce our research capabilities.

Accountabilities: Research and Enterprise Develop (lead for AP) an active, appropriate and viable personal research programme and/or participate (lead for AP) in team-based research.
Engage with industry to address their research needs.
Publish papers or other scholarly works in academic journals and review papers (appropriate for SL or AP level).
Generate research funding (appropriate for SL or AP level).
Supervise the research activities of graduate and undergraduate students and assist in the supervision of students/research projects at a postgraduate level (appropriate for SL or AP level).
Work collaboratively with colleagues.
Teaching and Supervision Contribute to and lead (appropriate for SL or AP level) the curriculum innovation in the whole life cycle of Built Environment projects, including but not limited to Design Management, Building Technology, Building Services, Construction Management, Digital Built Environment, Sustainable Built Environment, Facilities Management and Project Management.
Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and coordination as required.
Develop and teach major curriculum components of courses, in conjunction with colleagues in the Cluster (i.e.
discipline group) and beyond.
Coordinate and administer the teaching of subjects, which includes participating in the University's formal procedures of evaluating teaching and course delivery.
Contribute to the development of a supportive environment for Built Environment students and develop strategies for retention and achievement of Built Environment programmes from diverse cultural perspectives.
Academic Citizenship Support and mentor colleagues.
Participate in community service activities that further advance the profession or field and which are consistent with the University's Charter and Strategic Plan.
Assist the School to develop an environment that gives effect to the obligations of the Treaty of Waitangi.
Serve on University and/or School Committees.
Ensure the observance of University policy and codes of practice in all teaching, research, community service and administrative practices.
Contribute positively to the development of a working environment of teamwork and cooperation.
Any other relevant duties as required by the Head of the School of Built Environment.
General University Responsibilities Ensure the compliance of University policy and codes of practice in all teaching, research, community service, and administrative practices.
Qualifications and Experience A PhD degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, building science, civil engineering or similar, as well as a good record of research and publications relevant to built environment, including but not limited to design management, construction management or facilities management.
Hold current and relevant or working towards professional qualifications in one or more professional institutes related to Built Environment (e.g., RICS, NZIQS, CIOB, PMI, etc.)
is required.
Recent, relevant teaching experience, within a university or other tertiary teaching environment is required.
A research publication record in reputable peer-reviewed academic and/or professional journals, and/or books suitable for appointment at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level is required.
Experience of involvement in successfully securing competitive external academic research or industry R&D funding up to successful completion is required (leading for AP).
A proven record of successful research supervision (up to completion) at Postgraduate level is required (PhD completion for AP).
Industry experience relevant to the Built Environment or at least a good degree of exposure and involvement in industry-based training is desirable.
Capabilities - Behaviour Ability to communicate in English effectively in both verbal and written formats, conducting discussions in a respectful manner, that are sincere and fully expressed.
Effective communication and relationships with academic and professional staff and students.
Proven track record demonstrating leadership capabilities (for AP only).
Effective management of time and timely compliance with appropriate administrative requirements.
Capabilities - Technical Demonstrated skills in teaching, internally and distance, at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
Clear, confident and skilled online and classroom facilitator.
Demonstrated ability to lead academic courses, develop and deliver teaching materials, assess student progress and provide appropriate and timely feedback.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a research programme and/or research projects and to manage research projects effectively.
Proven record of mentoring postgraduate students.
Pre-employment checks Requirement to pass a Qualifications Validation Check.
Requirement to pass a Criminal and Traffic Convictions (Security) Check performed by the Ministry of Justice.
