It also has strong links with local iwi.Te Tari Haparapara, Te Tari Whaomoomo / the Department of Surgery and Anaesthesia at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Otago, Wellington is a multidisciplinary group dedicated to linking basic science with clinical research and providing high quality clinical teaching. The department has four main research groups, teaches a number of modules within the MB ChB programme, and provides vocationally focused postgraduate qualifications.The role/Te mahiThis Lecturer role within our Department represents an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to on-going teaching of medical students. In this role you will be expected to convene and teach within the Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma courses in Medical Technology. The courses are distance taught and aim to provide the academic framework required for those working as a cardiac or sleep physiologist. These courses provide grounding in underlying physiology and pathophysiology for cardiovascular and sleep medicine. In addition, a focus of the programme is on physiological measurement of cardiovascular, respiratory and sleep parameters.The key responsibilities for this role will include:Coordinating and teaching MTEC701 and 702 which are the papers required for the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Technology.Contributing to teaching of medical students within the Department of Surgery and Anaesthesia.Developing an independent research programme and supervising postgraduate research students.Contributing to departmental and school service activities.The successful candidate will have:• A PhD or equivalent research degree.• A commitment to research and proven research track record appropriate for career stage.• Experience in teaching within a healthcare environment, e.g. biomedical teaching.• Expertise in an aspect of cardiovascular or sleep physiology.• The ability to work independently and also as a team member.• Knowledge of Te Tiriti O Waitangi, and commitment to practice and teach in a manner consistent with the principles of Te Tiriti.This is a full time (1.0 FTE), permanent University academic role starting on 3rd February 2025 based in Wellington.The appointment range for this position is $90,902 to $107,300 per annum.The University of Otago is a workplace that values and utilises diverse and inclusive thinking, people and behaviours.
