Mo Tenei Turanga Mahi - About the Role

You will work independently to support learners in their self-study. This may include helping students to identify areas, skills or topics to focus on, identifying appropriate resources and advising students on appropriate study skills. Students may be enrolled in School of English programmes, or any other programme of study at Ara, or may be prospective students preparing for an entry test.

Nga Pukenga Me Nga Wheako - Skills/Experience

An understanding of the educational and general backgrounds of people for whom English is an additional language

An understanding of principles of adult learning and language learning

Experience in working with people for whom English is an additional language

Vision, innovation and a commitment to facilitating own and others' learning.

Capable of supporting students to achieve their learning outcomes.

Able to take appropriate initiative, working independently with students

The ability to implement flexible teaching and learning methods, including the use of learning technologies

Time management skills, including the ability to provide learning support to a number of students within a session

Digital literacy including competence using a computer (including Microsoft office products)

Uses a variety of interpersonal communication skills to develop and maintain strong positive working relationships with a diverse range of people

Recognises diversity positively (cultural, socioeconomic, age, ability)

Sound professional judgment and integrity
