Kiln Operator - Nelson

Carter Holt Harvey Woodproducts are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Kiln Operator to be part of the Drying Team processing timber in our Sawmill at Eve's Valley, Nelson. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of kiln operation, temperature control and safety protocols. As a Kiln Operator, reporting to the Kiln Supervisor, you will play a vital role in ensuring the quality and consistency of our timber products.
The roster for this role is on a rotating 12-hour shift of 2-nights, 1-day off, 2-days, 3-days off, averaging 42-hours per week. With flexibility to work additional hours at 1.5 rate when required to meet the needs of the business.
The role:

Operates and monitors kilns to ensure proper firing cycles
Set and adjust temperatures according to production specifications
Conduct regular inspections of kiln equipment and perform low level maintenance as needed
Maintain accurate records of firing times, temperatures and production output
Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the firing process
Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment
Collaborate with production staff to optimize firing schedules and enhance efficiency

About you:
You'll be someone who can work unsupervised, be self-motivated, flexible and can adapt to change easily. You'll have sound communication and people skills. Being physically fit and enjoy working outside would be an advantage. We are looking for a person who has:

Minimum of 12 months prior sawmill experience
Driver Licence Class 2 required, ideally with solid forklift experience and Wheels endorsement, but these can be obtained on the job
Competent in using Excel spreadsheets for data entry and reporting
Computer skills in navigating machine operating systems, settings and controls
Understanding of timber (pine) and its properties with respect to drying requirements
Someone who can show initiative along with good problem-solving skills
Good time management with the ability to work at a consistent pace with excellent attention to detail
Has the ability to follow written and verbal instructions along with working well within a small team
