Te Whare Oranga Wairua Maori Women's Refuge in Taupo is looking for a passionate and experienced social services advocate to join our amazing team. The key responsibility of this role is advocating and supporting our clients , ensuring the safety and security of our clients , and contributing to managing safe housing.
A Kaitiaki role is one of support, listening, guidance and education . Our Kaitiaki must have a world view, be culturally aware and sensitive to all in our communities. You will possess a mature, positive outlook in an ever-changing, evolving environment. You are the person who provides the safe space and security for our clients for their time in our space.
We work with many different cultures, ages, religious affiliations and diversity within our rainbow, takatapui communities.
You must have excellent communication, listening and computer skills . A confident facilitator, you will lead programmes with our wahine and work in the community connecting with networks and building relationships to benefit our wahine and whanau.
The right individual will ideally have:
Sound frameworks or models of practice relating to issues of domestic violence, parenting, drug and alcohol and care and protection
Previous experience in a social service agency working with vulnerable whanau
Experience of working with wahine, whanau, hapu and Iwi
Understanding of Tikanga and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi Principles
A current Social Workers registration and or extensive experience in social services
Clear professional boundaries and a non-judgmental manner
Be highly motivated, positive, solution-focused, and a team player
Flexible attitude and 'can do' approach
High level of self-awareness
Ability to multi-task and deal with competing priorities
Ability to work in a fluid and sometimes stressful environment
Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
Positive police vetting results under the Vulnerable Children's Act.
This role is a full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, between 8.30am to 4.30pm, with rostered crisis line remunerated outside of your work week. Hours are to be agreed by both parties. Remuneration is based on experience in the social sector under pay equity.
