He angitutanga | About the roleAs a Kaitiaki/Ranger Dotterels you will be joining our dedicated dotterel team on Rakiura in carrying out hunting and trapping for feral cats and other biodiversity work in efforts to protect the Nationally Critical Southern NZ Dotterel/Pukunui.
The last annual Southern NZ Dotterel count recorded only 101 birds remaining, so intensive predator control work is required to protect this species.You will work alone or in teams of two or three in remote locations for up to 10 days at a time, travelling to and from field sites by small boat, helicopter, or on foot.The position will be focussed on:Trapping feral cats across the Tin Range and other dotterel breeding sites.Monitoring dotterels at flock sites.Infrastructure maintenance.Working in remote locations alone or alongside other team members.Monitoring and recording your work progress.Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experienceThis role is unique and will require you to have a key focus on health and safety, and proven back-country experience.
