He angitutanga | About the roleYou'll play a vital role in projects dedicated to the care and maintenance of both front and backcountry and busy tourist sites in the Murihiku district covering Southland and the Catlin's.
You will work across the wider team supporting biodiversity initiatives in the Catlins, such as Sealion and Yellow Eyed Penguin conservation efforts.The position will be focussed on: Managing assigned project workTrack clearing and maintenance in the back and front country, using scrub bars, chainsaws, and diggers (if you have the qualifications)Maintaining huts, bridges, and other structuresBuilding and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and internal staffParticipating in team safety briefings and taking responsibility for your safety and the safety of your teammates every dayAssisting the biodiversity and wider teams as requiredYou will be required to work in backcountry locations, often in remote and rugged terrain, occasionally staying overnight While this position is mainly field-based, you will be required to complete office-based tasks assisting the Supervisor and Senior Ranger with planning and organising of projects.
Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experienceWe are looking for a confident communicator who can work well in a team environment as well as alone.If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you: Full New Zealand Drivers Licence (ability to drive a manual)High level of physical fitness and experience in the backcountry, particularly in remote and rugged terrainHands on practical skillset, ideally with carpentry, construction or building experiencePlanning and organisational skillsAbility to work alone and within a team; task prioritisation, initiativeStrong health and safety focusTech savvy skills with ability to learn new systemsEffective interpersonal skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders Desirable: Experience in maintaining visitor facilities, tracks and structuresExperience and/or qualifications with chainsaws, scrub bars, 4WDS, LUVs, helicopters and/or boatingA current First Aid certificate We are passionate about developing our people and will provide qualification training for specialised skills where required.
