Te whai wahitanga | The opportunity Te Puni Kaupapa | Policy Puni is strategically led, and results driven. They provide advice directly to the Crown and Government agencies on strategic policy issues and evidence-based approaches to improve Maori wellbeing and support the advancement of iwi and Maori development. Responsible for ensuring effective management of a policy team, Policy Managers at Te Puni Kokiri lead and contribute to the policy shop informing and influencing policy across the Ministry. They support and monitor the provision of quality policy advice from across the agency, helping to ensure Te Puni Kokiri are exemplars of modern public policy practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. At a local level, Policy Managers are an important connect to our regional network and policy nodes with iwi, hapu and whanau. Working with colleagues, iwi and hapu, and Maori organisations is essential. Portfolio Areas Currently with vacant positions: Te Whanaketanga Ohanga | Economic Development - Champions the growth and opportunities for iwi and Maori business, including leading social procurement reforms. Te Pou Taiao - Harnessing the strategic advantage of Te Ao Maori through unlocking the resources needed by whanau to thrive over the next two generations. Environmental and natural resource sector. Other Policy teams: Te Whakawhare | Housing - Focuses on the relationship between housing, health and enterprise and the opportunity that this combination of public policy areas presents for whanau, locally led solutions. Whanau Ora - Prioritises and supports this high priority mahi with the development of whanau centred policy that enables whanau-led change. Te Reo Maori - Supports the revitalisation and advancement of Te Reo Maori and implementation of Te Whare o te Reo Mauriora including supporting the key relationships that underpin this. Te Pae Tawhiti - Leading the government's work with Maori here and abroad to enable matauranga Maori and taonga to flourish in accordance with tikanga Maori. Working alongside Te Taumata Whakapumau and other agencies to deliver the Te Tumu mo te Pae Tawhiti programme. Nga Patuitanga Rangai Maori | Maori Sector Partnerships - Ensuring mechanisms and arrangements for Maori entities, organisations and institutions are fit for purpose. Includes legislative reform. Nga Kaupapa Here Tumatanui Maori | Maori Public Policy - Supporting and monitoring the provision of quality policy advice from across the agency. Ensuring Te Puni Kokiri are exemplars of modern public policy practice in Aotearoa. Adaptable, policy managers at Te Puni Kokiri adjust to changing priorities and kaupapa areas as needed. The appointment range for the Policy Manager role is between $153,574 and $191,967 per annum and the salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills and experience. What we are looking for We are looking for candidates with experience leading and mentoring teams, who are motivated to help others succeed and are committed to creating open, collaborative environments where all kaimahi can share knowledge and contribute: Leadership experience, especially with a government policy team. Possess the core behaviours and applied skills required of a successful policy manager as defined by the Policy Project. Ability to analyse large, complex policy issues and readily grasp and synthesise the ideas, analysis and advice produced by others. Experience in managing multiple, complex projects concurrently is ideal. Relationship management, communication and influencing skills. Including presenting to Ministers and Executive Leadership Teams and forming strong working relationships with iwi, hapu and whanau. Excellent understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and its application in modern day policy development practices. Have a solid understanding of Te Ao Maori, working knowledge of tikanga Maori, and a working level of competence with te reo Maori.
