Housing & Homelessness Services (Community Services & Development)Wellington City Mission's supported transitional housing spaces in Wellington City and Petone are residential communities where people affected by housing insecurity are supported and equipped to move onto, and sustain, long term tenancies in the community.There are many factors contributing to housing insecurity, including social disadvantage and addictions. Supporting mental, physical and social wellness are among the aims of the WCM transitional housing team and the reason we are seeking a Kaiarahi/Housing Advocate.About the roleAs a Kaiarahi/Housing Advocate, you will be part of a team working at Te Pa Pori, 58 Tory Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011. You will engage with the manuhiri (guests/ those seeking a place to settle) identifying their health and wellbeing aspirations, supporting them to achieve stability and resilience as they work towards new goals. You will use your AOD skills and experience to support manuhiri to address their addiction challenges in a way that supports them to move forward in their wellbeing. This will include:Ability to complete assessments of referred manuhiri for housing supports;Applying strengths-based supports and practice to support and help manuhiri work toward their aspirations;Ability to develop case management plans with manuhiri, monitoring and motivating manuhiri towards goal achievement;Where required and with agreement, advocate to service providers on behalf of manuhiri;Supporting manuhiri in their connections and relationships with whanau and communities;Modelling and applying wellbeing best practice principles, informed by Tikanga Maori approaches; ability to adapt practice for Pacific and migrant people;Building professional relationships with WCM counselling, addiction specialist, community social work, social supermarket, financial mentoring personnel; and external organisations providing relevant services.About youThe Kaiarahi/Housing Advocate role requires you to have:3 years plus experience in the housing support space;A minimum qualification in Health and Wellbeing level 4;An understanding of the drivers and effects of social disadvantage including housing deprivation;Ability to relate across diverse cultures;An awareness of Tikanga and Te Ao Maori and Te Tiriti and their application to social services;A commitment to the approach and Kaupapa of Wellington City Mission.In return, you will get to work with the Wellington City Mission team, who believe that life can be better than it is, for the manuhiri we work with!This is a full-time, permanent position, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am – 5.00pm, with a salary range of $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 depending on qualifications and experience.If this role sounds like you, email (emailprotected) for a position description and application form.
