Full timeThe summer internship will provide an opportunity to grow capability and capacity in the Maori language revitalisation sector by providing a 'hands-on' experience across the work functions at Te Matawai.The core function of this role is to contribute to the enablement of the Kahui Support work programme through the provision of support to the Kaiarahi Poureo/Kaiawhina (Kahui Support Lead).This role provides an opportunity for the intern to be exposed to the Maori language revitalisation movement amongst kainga, hapori and iwi.Key AccountabilitiesThe primary responsibility of this internship will be to undertake a project to review and identify opportunities and develop solutions to strengthen information sharing between the Te Matawai office and Poureo, Kaiawhina, and Pae Motuhake.The following key accountabilities of this role will assist in delivering the Te Matawai vision:Developing an understanding of the roles and work programmes of Poureo and KaiawhinaProviding support with recruitment and supporting the induction of new Poureo and KaiawhinaSupporting the development of a Pae Motuhake induction package, specifically, resources (visual or other) that support Pae Motuhake, Poureo and Kaiawhina to work effectively togetherSupporting the development of visual resources (ie. flow charts, mind maps and other) to guide and describe recruitment, contract management and other key administrative processesProviding administrative support/cover to the Kaiarai Whakawhanake Kahui, as requiredLeading the development of Poureo profilesParticipating in and contributing to Te Matawai meetings and callsOther duties, as reasonably required, to ensure consistency of delivery of the work programmeQualifications, Skills, Knowledge and ExperienceYou must have the following qualifications, skills and/or experience:Studying towards or interested in human resources and/or contract managementExperience with and/or passion for visual design or presenting information with impactAbility to think critically about problems and explore broadly for solutionsStrong communication skills, in both written and verbal contextsComfortable in Maori immersion/bilingual settings (proficiency in te reo Maori is an advantage)Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and VisioSound understanding of tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principlesBe a passionate advocate for the revitalisation of Te Reo MaoriA strong work ethic and ability to work as part of the collective to get results.RelationshipsThe position is required to build and maintain relationships with internal staff, in particular the:Tumu Whakarae (CEO)Board MembersThe position is required to build and maintain relationships with external organisations including, but not limited to:Kia Ukaipo ano te Reois our vision to restore the Maori language as a nurturing first language for our tamariki and mokopuna.Te Matawai works collaboratively across Aotearoa to restore te reo Maori as a vibrant language used widely and ultimately to be nurtured as a first language in homes and communities.Te Matawai was established to act on behalf of iwi and Maori to:lead the promotion of the health and well-being of te reo Maori for iwi and Maori, and at the community level;support, inform and influence the Crown's initiatives in protecting, promoting and revitalising te reo Maori;give effect, through its association with Ministers of the Crown, to the relationship of the Crown with iwi and Maori in relation to te reo Maori; andprovide oversight and direction to the Maori Television Service in conjunction with the Minister for Maori Development and the Minister of Finance.Te Matawai has an innovative organisational model that is driven by evidence-based strategy as we seek to build capability across the Maori language revitalisation movement through relationships, resourcing and community empowerment.Our organisational culture is underpinned by practices that reflect Te Ao Maori perspectives.
