Job Description: Junior Research OfficerPosition Purpose: The purpose of this position is to support delivery of research activity from the Whenua Haumanu Programme through analysing and assisting in reporting and publication of data from all aspects of the Programme.This includes integrating, analysing, and reporting data for quarterly reports to the Ministry of Primary Industries, preparation of newsletters, regularly updating public and scientific presentations, and continuing the development of methods and protocols for all parts of the Whenua Haumanu Programme.Department: School of Agriculture and Environment (SAE)Location: ManawatuReports to: Agricultural Group Leader through the Whenua Haumanu Programme Leader and Programme Manager.Responsible for: NilDelegations: NilKey relationships:SAE Agriculture Group LeaderVarious stakeholders in the Whenua Haumanu Programme teamAcademic and Professional StaffUndergraduate and Postgraduate students who are undertaking activities associated with the Whenua Haumanu ProgrammeAccountabilities:Research Support:Support the Programme Manager and Research Leads in meeting the Whenua Haumanu Programme reporting and output requirements, through integrating, analysing, and reporting data from multiple parts of the Programme, including but not limited to, animal, pasture, soils, environmental and production data.Ensure that data is presented in a manner required for quarterly reports, presentations, and for industry and scientific publications.Keep information sheets, the Whenua Haumanu website, social media pages and newsletter data up to date.Assist in the collection of research data from the field and the laboratory under instruction from the Programme Lead.Help to collate information for literature reviews and help write these literature reviews and annotated bibliographies under direction from Programme Lead.Support Research Leads and Operations Manager with documentation and maintenance of research protocols.Undertake other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned from time to time by the Programme Lead.Qualifications and Experience:Qualifications:A postgraduate degree in Agricultural, Horticultural or Animal Science, or related science discipline, OR proven high-level equivalent experience and expertise.Proven track record in report writing and/or publication.Demonstrated ability in oral communication and presenting to varying audiences.Experience:Experience with collecting and maintaining experimental data from field experimentation.Experience with, and strong interest in, data collection and manipulation, both manual and automated via electronic equipment.Experience with Microsoft Office products such as Word and PowerPoint.Experience with data analysis using both Excel and statistical programmes that could include R, SAS, SPSS or Minitab.Strong knowledge and understanding of pastoral management practices for cattle and sheep in New Zealand.Pre-employment checks:Qualifications check.Requirement to pass a Criminal and Traffic Convictions (Security) Check performed by the Ministry of Justice.Hold a valid NZ driver's licence.
