An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and passionate person to join our Community Law team as a Junior Lawyer at 155 Whare Awhina.About usBased in Whangarei, 155 Community Law Taitokerau is a service of 155 Whare Awhina. We offer a whanau ora integrated approach across all our services: Community Law, Whanau Support, Housing Navigation and Housing First, Open Arms, Food Bank, Food Rescue and Community Development.The right person will join a highly skilled and passionate team of individuals who share a strong sense of social justice. You will have great decision-making, kaitiakitanga, relationship-building and communication skills as well as self-management skills and legal experience. Our constitutional goal of Treaty-based operations means you will have a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi based partnership. Sensitivity to, and knowledge of, te reo Maori and tikanga Maori is also desirable.Full-time, Monday to Friday.Based in Whangarei and working at our outreaches.Duties include:Legal casework: Providing legal information, assistance, and representation for a range of clients in Taikokerau.Legal resource education: contributing to the development of the legal education programme.Community Development: provision of legal information throughout the community.Our Community Law Centre is looking for:A practising lawyer who is passionate about ensuring whanau have access to justice and has experience working with Maori.Ideally, you will have experience in one or more of the following areas: Disputes Resolution, Employment, Tenancy and Housing, Consumer Affairs, Family, Enduring Powers of Attorney, among other things.Hold a current New Zealand practicing certificate or working towards it.You are a team player who can work confidently on your own.You will have a working knowledge of Te Tiriti O Waitangi, Te Reo Maori, and Tikanga Maori.Hold a full New Zealand driver's licence.We would also consider graduates with a strong sense of social justice and a heart for helping people.
