This role is based in Tamaki Makaurau | Auckland Who we are: Ko Te Taurapa Tuhono tenei New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), Te Taurapa Tuhono, is New Zealand's international business development agency.

At NZTE, we believe that what's good for Maori is good for New Zealand, so in the investment team, we have dedicated professionals who are driven by this purpose.
In this role, you will use your commercial expertise to engage deeply with Maori stakeholders to develop and accelerate their companies, support large-scale greenfield investment opportunities (that are typically sponsored by iwi organisations and Maori land trusts), and assist Maori as investors to create a step-change in New Zealand's economy.
This will involve originating opportunities and building the investment capability of Maori stakeholders to accelerate their companies and projects to an investment-ready state with the aim of attracting domestic capital or Foreign Direct Investment.
You'll provide in-depth capital and financial knowledge and advice across various opportunities, all of which is done through a uniquely Maori lens.
In terms of te ao Maori, this means driving: Hinonga – Maori better utilising their assets to generate income and meaningful employment in Aotearoa Matauranga - informed Maori investors growing diversified portfolios Rangapu – Maori partnering for investment success Whakaata- Awesome Maori investment opportunities showcased to the world What you'll be doing: Tewhakamahere You will be working across the entire life cycle of investment projects, from developing investment propositions alongside Maori organisations (Iwi commercial entities; significant Maori Incorporations and Lands Trusts; Maori commercial partnerships; Maori companies etc.)
at the concept stage, shaping the proposition for market, then connecting with the right investors.
Your role will also involve showing investment opportunities to your Maori investor network.
This means that you will have both the commercial capability to vet these opportunities, as well as a deep understanding of the preferences and mandate of your Maori investor network.
You will have sound technical understanding and advice you will provide, ranging from high-level value proposition and market evaluation through to financial analysis, business models, operational mechanics, debt management, how to leverage current economic factors, and governance for specific opportunities; all to create high-quality investment propositions and attract investors.
Relationships will be as diverse as the projects, with a wide range of stakeholders including Founders, Directors and Management of Maori commercial entities; governors of Iwi, Maori Incorporations and Land Trusts; local and international investor groups; Professional intermediaries (e.g.
Investment Banks, Advisory Firms, Commercial Banks); and relevant government agencies.
What you'll need to be successful: O Pukenga The ideal candidate is an investment-focused professional with in-depth knowledge of the Maori commercial sector, preferably with a corporate finance, property or infrastructure investment background and strong project management skills.
Key Requirements: Understanding of tikanga Maori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and a basic understanding of te reo Maori will equip the applicant to thrive in this role.
